A Beautiful Life
I'm very sad to report Deb's mother passed away yesterday.
Rest in Peace Corinne Jeanette Surface.
She grew up in McPherson, Kansas and met her future husband Dave there when they were both teenagers. Fifty-five years of marriage followed, along with two great kids Daryl and Deb. I've been fortunate myself to know Corinne for over 25 years.
She loved to read books, many, many books, and was a reading tutor in the local schools for many years. Always active in her church, she also enjoyed camping in the Colorado mountains with Dave and the rest of the family. She was quite a cook; she and Dave always served up some delicious concoctions cooked over the fire (nachos, pea soup with ham, hobo pockets, campfire pies, all great stuff!). But she was best known for her love of her kitty cats. She had several over the years, but it was her two black long-hair kitties, Sampson and Cinder, who kept her company the last few years. Based on the pictures I found, it seems she also loved our little white doggies!
Deb and Dave are doing fine, we all are because this was known for several months. It didn't make the actual day easy for any of us, but it helped that this wasn't a surprise. It did progress faster than expected - we only got here 8 days before she passed.
Her pastor kept saying how blessed she was to live such a beautiful life, with loving family around her for so long.
So it's a very sad day, but also a new beginning for Dave and the family. Us "kids" are still going to do our things, and we expect Dave will find opportunities to enjoy life in new and different ways. Send your love to him.

Dear Surface family! My heart is heavy as I read this news of Corrine! I can hear her laughing now! I can picture coming home with Deb after school and passing through the hair shop then on up into the tv room with the cats in the big picture window! Love and prayers to your dear family! Lena
Thanks everyone for all the kind thoughts and prayers. The few days leading up to moms death were pretty rough. I am doing much better these last few days, Its harder to watch someone suffer, than to be in a better place, I’m happy for my mom!
